Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi festival

Step by Step Ganesh Chaturthi Puja Vidhi at Home
Step 1: Avahana and Pratishthapan
Avahana is the very first step where Puja begins with an invocation of Lord Ganesha, one should chant the following Mantra in front of the Murti, by showing Avahan Mudra.
Pratishthapan is the step where Lord Ganesh has been invoked and by pratishthapan mantras, we install Lord Ganesh into the statue. i.e simple Ganesh Sthapana Vidhi is performed.
Step 2: Asana Samarpan
After the first step, Lord Ganesh has been invoked and installed in the statue.
Now take five flowers in Anjali (by joining the palm of both hands) and leave them in front of the Murti to offer a seat to Shri Ganesha while chanting the Mantra.
Step 3: Padya Samarpan
In the third step, we offer him water to wash the feet while chanting the Padya Samarpan mantra.
Step 4: Arghya Samarpan
After offering Padya to Lord Ganesh, offer scented water to Lord Ganesha while chanting mantras.
Step 5: Achamana
After Arghya offering, offer water to Lord Ganesha for Achamana while chanting achamana mantras.
Step 6: Snana Mantra
Snana means “snan” which in simple words means shower. After Achamana, offer water to Shri Ganesha for the bath while chanting mantras.
- Panchamrita Snanam: After Snanam, now give a bath with Panchamrita (the mixture of milk, curd, honey, Ghee and sugar) to Shri Ganesha while chanting the panchamrita Mantra.
- Payah/Dugdha Snanam: After panchamrita snanam, payah snanam is the next step. Payah means milk. Now it’s time to give a milk shower to Lord Ganesh.
- Dadhi Snanam: After Dugdha Snanam, now give a bath with curd to Shri Ganesha while chanting mantras.
- Ghrita Snanam: After Dadhi Snanam, now give a bath with Ghee to Shri Ganesha while chanting Mantra.
- Madhu Snanam: After Ghrita Snanam, now give a bath with honey to Shri Ganesha while chanting Mantras.
Step 7: Vastra Samarpan and Uttariya Samarpan
Vastra Samarpan means it’s time to offer Moli as new clothes to Lord Ganesha while chanting mantras.
After Vastra Samarpan, it’s time for Uttariya Samarpan where we offer clothes for upper body parts to Lord Ganesha while chanting mantras.
Step 8: Yajnopavita Samarpan
After the Vastra offering, offer Yajnopavita to Lord Ganesha while chanting Mantra.
Step 9: Gandha
After Yajnopavita offering, offer scent to Lord Ganesha while chanting mantra.
Step 10: Akshata
After Gandha offering, offer Akshata (unbroken rice) to Lord Ganesha while chanting mantra.
Step 11: Pushpa Mala, Shami Patra, Durvankura, Sindoor
Pushpa Mala means offering garlands made of flowers to Lord Ganesha while chanting mantras. After that, offer shami patra to Lord Ganesh while chanting mantras.
Now offer Durva with three or five leaflets to Lord Ganesha while chanting mantras. Now offer vermilion to Lord Ganesha for Tilak while chanting mantras.
Step 12: Dhoop
After sindoor, it’s time to offer dhoop to Lord Ganesh.
Step 13: Deep Samarpan
Now offer Deep to Lord Shiva while chanting mantras.
Step 14: Naivedya and Karodvartan
Naivedya Nivedan is the step where you offer Nivedya to Lord Ganesh while chanting prayers. Karodvartan means to offer Chandan mixed with water to Lord Ganesha while chanting the mantra.
Step 15: Tambula, Narikela and Dakshina Samarpan
- Tambula Samarpan: Now offer Tambula (Paan with betel nuts) to Lord Ganesha while chanting Mantra.
- Narikela Samarpan : Now offer Narikela (coconut) to Lord Ganesha while chanting Mantra.
- Dakshina Samarpan: Now offer Dakshina (gift) to Lord Ganesha while chanting following Mantra.
